The San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) runs a full calendar of standing community workgroups and meetings — forums where residents, caregivers, and providers weigh in on the city’s health services. Bilingva is DPH’s interpreting and translation partner for that calendar, in the room and on the call.
A standing calendar of workgroups
Bilingva provides consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, onsite and remote, for DPH’s recurring meetings: Community Connector Meetings, the Complex Medical Workgroup, the Early Intervention Workgroup, the Transition Age Workgroup, Triennial Meetings, and community events. Because these are planned in advance, Bilingva works with DPH ahead of each meeting to confirm languages, prepare interpreters, and set up equipment — so the session itself runs without friction.
Six core languages, onsite and remote
The standing rotation covers Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian, and Tagalog. Interpreters work consecutively and simultaneously depending on the meeting format, and Bilingva supplies the equipment and hands-on assistance for whichever setting the meeting calls for — in person in a community room or dialed into a remote session.
On call for the meeting that wasn’t on the calendar
Not every DPH language need is scheduled months out. Bilingva is also called on for out-of-cadence meetings and less common language requests — including Health Code violation matters — and for languages outside the standing six, such as Thai, on request. With 200 languages of interpreter bench depth, Bilingva can staff a request the department didn’t see coming as readily as one planned a month in advance.
Survey translation with a technical backbone
Alongside interpreting, Bilingva translates Qualtrics survey instruments for DPH’s Office of Health Equity — a process built for consistency, not just accuracy. Surveys move back and forth as XLIFF files: translated, reviewed against a standardized SF Translation Memory and glossary inside Bilingva’s translation workbench (Phrase), then delivered back to DPH ready to use.
